Zahida Parveen’s vocals had the quality to render with the most difficult ‘Taans’ and ‘Meends’ with ease. She was equally proficient in Khayal, Thumri, Kafi, Geet, Ghazal and gained widespread fame for her Kafis of Sufi poets.

She sung with a sweet nasal tone and was familiar with scores of rhythms and melodic inflections and is attributed with the invention of new musical idioms. She had a unusual style of mixing ‘Taans’ and ‘Meends’ that was unique.

Zahida Parveen was popularly known as the Nightingale for her melodious voice. She sung regularly at Radio Pakistan Lahore She is considered one of the early greats of Pakistani music.

Zahida Parveen was born in Amritsar, Punjab, Pre-Partition India in 1925. Her initial music education was emparted by Baba Taj, a sarangi player from Kapurthala gharana and later by Hussain Baksh Khan, another sarangi player. After partition of the Pak-Indo subcontinent in 1947, she moved to Lahore, Pakistan and become a student of Ustad Ashiq Hussain of Patiala Gharana. She moved to Multan, Pakistan after her marriage.
