Although its scale resembles Bhimpalasi without Re and Dha, it has a personality that is entirely its own. The raag is often described as a lighter version of Raag Malkauns, replacing the flattened Dha with Pa, creating a brighter and more inviting sound. Its expressive simplicity has made it a favorite not only in Hindustani classical music but also in semi-classical and popular repertoire. In the Carnatic tradition, its closest counterpart is Shuddha Dhanyasi.
